Cost of production information is summarized for OECS countries. Production cost in EC$/kg ranged from o.72 in St Kitts to 1.25 in Montserrat. These costs were viewed as reasonable considering that the SFAD was willing to pay a minimum guaranteed price of EC$2.47 per kg.

Comments/Analysis

  • The data available come from studies in the OECS show that costs of production vary considerably.
  • The indication from the Antigua studies (1991) is that Net Crop Income could be attractive.
  • More definitive studies are needed to update the information.
