Criteria for selection of national hub suggested as follows:-

Accessibility to all users
Availability of human and financial resources
Technical expertise
Stable institution
Centrally located with contact with the farming community
Administrative and technical functions under one roof or control within one organization.

Responsibilities of the Regional Information Centre

St. Lucia recommended that CARDI undertake work in the area of the sensitization process and send materials to St. Lucia
Identification of existing sources of information
Requests for financial support for mobilization and data collection
Possible technical support (FTM/donors) for management of information.

Other concerns, issues and suggestions

The Ministry of Agriculture may need to adopt a role in the area of documentation and information, particularly since with the availablity of computers information will be more accessible to staff and potential clients of the Ministry.

L. Daisley to initiate the first meeting of the steering committee, within one month of the meeting (September 1998). The group should meet within one week to plan the meeting.
