CAIS Summary Draft Project Proposal Comments

Introduction
Accepted.

Beneficiaries
Accepted.

Problems to be addressed

The group highlighted the following problems for Grenada
The need for marketing information was very important to Grenada
There was a lack of knowledge of data sources
The need for capacity building, space to house materials, human resources and training skills were also noted as being especially important.

Goal

The use of the term "upgrading of physical infrastructure" was suggested instead of the word "plant" in "upgrading of plant, products and services". It was felt that the use of the word "plant" indicated a bias for the development of programmes related to plants versus those related to animals in the agricultural sector.

Objectives

The group noted that there were already some systems in place in Grenada to facilitate the objectives. These included:

A school network system.
A Ministry of Agriculture system using an FAO Software (COSTPRO) to prepare cost of production for the country.
A library network.

Results

Results should include: Recognized standards for electronic data management to ensure achievement of the results.

Assumptions

The group suggested that the following be included:-

Adequate trained personnel.

Adequate information management policies.

The above could be viewed as tangible support at the national level.

Elements of CAIS Structure

The list of potential members suggested for Grenada was: -

National Documentation Centre
Ministry of Agriculture
Farmers Groups
Exporters Groups
Commodity Boards
Chamber of Commerce
Ministry of Finance
Statistics Division
Planning Division
Bureau of Standards

The National Documentation Centre was suggested as the National Hub for Grenada.
